SpaceX Signs $1.1B/Month Mystery AI Compute Deal, Eyes $100B ARR

SpaceX has locked in another blockbuster AI compute deal worth $1.11 billion per month, set to kick off December 1st — and the customer's identity remains undisclosed. CFO Bret Johnsen revealed the agreement at a Goldman Sachs conference, saying it gave him greater confidence SpaceX would hit its target of $100 billion in annual recurring revenue by year-end.

The mystery deal joins a rapidly growing roster of hyperscale AI compute agreements. Anthropic is already paying SpaceX $1.25 billion per month through May 2029 to power its Claude models, while Google — a significant SpaceX shareholder — signed a $920 million per month deal in June. Johnsen had previously told investors SpaceX booked $6.7 billion in cloud services revenue in just the first few weeks of Q3 2026 alone.

The compute gold rush traces back to SpaceX's February merger with Elon Musk's AI startup xAI, which handed SpaceX a large tranche of underutilized data center capacity. The company now operates its massive Colossus facilities in Mississippi and Tennessee, which have become prime real estate as AI firms like OpenAI and Meta scramble for GPU access amid an industry-wide infrastructure bottleneck.

The revenue windfall comes with enormous costs attached. SpaceX burned through $16 billion on AI infrastructure in Q2 2026 alone, with executives signaling comparable spend for the remainder of the year. Musk's longer-term play goes even further: he's betting that orbital data centers — satellites carrying compute hardware — are the answer to Earth-based data centers' energy and public-opposition problems. SpaceX plans to launch its first AI satellites by the end of 2027.
