Salesforce is in advanced discussions to acquire Listen Labs, an AI-powered customer research startup, for approximately $2 billion — roughly four times the company's last known valuation of $500 million set earlier this year. The deal has not been finalized and could still fall apart, but it signals Salesforce's aggressive push to deepen the capabilities of its Agentforce platform beyond simple task automation.
Founded in 2023 by Harvard classmates Alfred Wahlforss and Florian Juengermann — the latter a former national competitive programming champion in Germany — Listen Labs grew out of the pair's earlier project: an AI avatar app that pulled in 20,000 users on its first day. They used an early prototype of what became Listen Labs to interview those users, which revealed a broader market opportunity in AI-driven qualitative research. The platform automates the interview and synthesis process that has traditionally cost companies significant time and money, and its client roster now includes Microsoft, Anthropic, Google, Nestlé, Sweetgreen, and Perplexity.
The company's growth trajectory has been steep. By the start of 2025, Listen Labs reported a 15x increase in annualized revenue and had conducted more than one million AI-powered interviews over just nine months. Investors including Sequoia Capital, Ribbit Capital, Conviction Partners, and Pear VC have backed the company.
For Salesforce, absorbing Listen Labs would let Agentforce evolve from automating repetitive workflows into something more strategically valuable: understanding customer intent, surfacing product recommendations, and helping salespeople craft more effective pitches. The potential acquisition fits into a broader M&A frenzy in AI — with Nvidia reportedly picking up HuggingFace for around $12.9 billion and Stripe acquiring OpenRouter for roughly $8 billion in recent weeks. Notably, Salesforce had itself reportedly considered buying HuggingFace before Nvidia closed that deal.
