OpenAI is rolling out a sweeping visual overhaul to ChatGPT called Intelligent UI, launching alongside its new GPT-6 models. The update transforms ChatGPT's plain text responses into rich, interactive experiences — embedding diagrams, charts, forms, tappable buttons, and even fully functional tools directly inside the conversation window.
The feature was trained into GPT-6 itself, meaning the model was taught not just what to generate visually, but when to do it. In one example, asking about a seven-speed bicycle's design yields an interactive diagram with buttons that highlight individual components. In another, learning Mahjong triggers a scrollable visual display of each tile organized by category — a fundamentally different experience from reading a wall of text.
ChatGPT can also generate purpose-built tools on demand — users can request a retirement savings calculator, a bill splitter, or even a retro game, all rendered inline with the response. It's a significant step toward ChatGPT functioning less like a search engine and more like an interactive application platform.
The GPT-6 rollout also brings two distinct model tiers: Sol, the mid-range version going to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers, and Luna, a more efficient version heading to free and Go users. Beyond the visual upgrades, GPT-6 improves web search performance, delivers faster partial answers while still gathering information, and shows stronger resistance to safety bypass attempts, according to OpenAI. Intelligent UI goes live today for paid tiers and expands to free users on Thursday.
