Meta has unveiled Muse Charm, a palm-sized AI wearable designed to provide users with constant access to the company's personal AI agent, Muse. CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed the device during Meta's annual Connect event, describing it as a way to keep consumers connected to Muse without requiring them to unlock a phone or open an app. The device features a tiny screen displaying a digital avatar called Jolly and includes a fingerprint sensor that users tap to initiate voice conversations with the AI agent.
The Muse Charm is designed to be carried in a pocket or attached to a keychain, emphasizing portability and constant availability. The device packs Meta's real-time voice technology and avatar stack into something small enough to fit on a keychain. Users can interact with the agent through voice commands, allowing the AI to presumably complete tasks on their behalf. Zuckerberg positioned the device as an alternative interface for those not wearing Meta's Ray-Ban glasses, claiming it will be the fastest way to access Muse and show the agent what's happening in the user's surroundings.
The Muse Charm won't ship immediately. Zuckerberg indicated that Meta still needs to finalize the internal component layout, with devices expected to reach consumers in time for the December holiday shopping season. The wearable's design has been compared to a Tamagotchi—a lightweight, personality-driven device meant to maintain user engagement with Meta's software ecosystem. This approach represents a relatively low-risk way for the social media giant to experiment with AI wearables while expanding the distribution channels for its AI agent.
Meta's entry into the AI amulet space comes as the broader category has become somewhat saturated and subject to industry skepticism. Devices from companies like Friend have made physical AI wearables something of a cliché among consumers. However, Meta's massive user base and integration with its existing ecosystem position the Muse Charm differently from standalone competitors. The company has already seen significant early traction with Muse itself, suggesting consumer appetite for its AI agent offering.
