SpaceX Lands $1.1B/Month Mystery AI Compute Deal, Eyes $100B ARR

SpaceX has signed another blockbuster AI compute deal worth $1.11 billion per month, with the mystery customer set to begin paying on December 1st. CFO Bret Johnsen disclosed the agreement at a Goldman Sachs conference, declining to name the buyer but saying it gave him greater confidence that SpaceX would hit its target of $100 billion in annual recurring revenue by year-end.

The new deal adds to an already staggering roster of cloud clients. Anthropic is paying SpaceX $1.25 billion per month through May 2029 to help meet surging demand for its Claude AI model, and Google — itself a major SpaceX shareholder — locked in a $920 million per month arrangement in June. SpaceX's compute capacity largely flows from its Colossus data centers in Mississippi and Tennessee, capacity it absorbed when it merged with Elon Musk's AI startup xAI in February 2026.

The financial momentum is significant. Just weeks into Q3, SpaceX had already signed $6.7 billion in cloud services revenue. But the money is flowing out nearly as fast as it comes in — the company spent $16 billion on AI infrastructure in Q2 alone, and executives have signaled similar burn rates through the rest of the year.

The longer-term bet is even more audacious: Musk is positioning space itself as the answer to the data center energy crunch and public backlash facing terrestrial AI infrastructure. SpaceX is planning to launch its first orbital data centers by the end of 2027, a move that would take the AI compute arms race literally off the planet.
