UI Kitten 5.0: A React Native UI Framework Worth Considering

For developers starting a new React Native mobile project, choosing a UI component library is one of the earliest and most consequential decisions. UI Kitten 5.0 — one of several options alongside NativeBase, React Native Elements, and Shoutem — makes a strong case for itself through a combination of component breadth, theming sophistication, and solid documentation.

The framework ships with 20+ pre-built, customizable components that cover most foundational app needs. Navigation components stand out for their visual polish and seamless integration with the popular react-navigation library. UI Kitten also offers a companion showcase app called kittenTricks, which lets developers preview real-world UI patterns — profile pages, settings screens, and more — before writing a single line of code. That hands-on preview was reportedly a deciding factor in at least one developer's choice to adopt the framework.

Theming is arguably UI Kitten's most technically impressive feature. The framework supports both Material Design and the Eva Design System, the latter built for deep customization. The development team actively closes issues and ships updates regularly.

One known drawback flagged for a future writeup: testing requires meaningful additional overhead compared to simpler setups.
