Roblox is bringing vibe coding to its mobile app with a new AI-powered tool called Build, which lets users turn plain-text prompts into basic playable games — no programming knowledge required. The feature, announced Thursday, is designed to lower the barrier to game creation on a platform that has always positioned itself as a user-built ecosystem rather than a single title.
The tool works exactly as the name implies: a user types a description — say, a cozy forest adventure with environmental obstacles — and Build generates a functional starting point that can be playtested, tweaked, and published. It's essentially vibe coding, the trending practice of describing software in natural language and letting AI handle the underlying code, applied directly to game development. Roblox isn't alone in this space; Google's Genie 3 and Microsoft's WHAM are pursuing similar territory.
Roblox plans to begin a limited rollout in New Zealand on July 28. Initially, age-verified users 9 and older can access Build to create games, while published titles will only be visible to age-verified users 16 and older. A free tier will be available at launch, with paid tiers offering more advanced capabilities to follow.
The move matters for two reasons. First, it deepens Roblox's moat as a creation platform by putting game-making tools in the same app millions of kids already use daily. Second, it offers younger players a cheap alternative to buying expensive new titles — instead of purchasing a $70 release, they can just make something. Roblox, founded in 2006, already hosts millions of user-created games built in its desktop Roblox Studio; Build is a mobile-first, AI-assisted shortcut to that same pipeline.
